AS-355 (now manufactured by Airbus) is a twin-engine version of the ECUREUIL family powered with 2 Turbomeco Arrius 1A engines. It benefits from the FADEC system (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) which makes piloting easier and safer. It is the most affordable twin-engine helicopter on the market. Manufactured since 1979, it was in production through 2016.
The helicopter has maximum internal load capability of 1,163 kg (approx. 2,564 lbs) and can carry up to 2,800 kg (approx. 6,172 lbs) on external sling. It can be operated by a single pilot and carry up to 6 passengers. It has the range of 667 km (360 nmi) and operating ceiling of 4,600 m (approx. 15,100 ft). Renowned for its low operation and maintenance costs, this helicopter benefits from the reliability and safety of its two Turbomeca Arrius 1A1 engines.
Besides passenger transportation, the helicopter cab be equipped for police and parapublic missions, operating well over water or in urban settings.
